By ANTONIO RAY HARVEY
In a thrilling basketball showdown, the Sacramento Kings emerged victorious over the Houston Rockets, with a stellar performance by DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan's remarkable achievement of reaching 26,000 career points in the NBA history books was a highlight of the night. This milestone, achieved in the second quarter, solidified his place among the league's all-time greats.
The Kings' triumph was a team effort, with Zach LaVine, Russell Westbrook, and Malik Monk contributing significantly. LaVine's 18 points, Westbrook's 15 points and 10 assists, and Monk's 15 points showcased the team's depth and talent. However, it was DeRozan's 22 points that truly propelled the Kings to their first win of the season, improving their record to 9-30.
The Rockets, led by Amen Thompson's 31 points and 13 rebounds, put up a strong fight. Kevin Durant's 23 points and Alperen Sengun's 19 points kept the game close. Despite Thompson's impressive performance, the Rockets suffered their fourth loss in five games, dropping their record to 22-14.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team leading by more than five points through the first three quarters. Thompson's 18 points in the third quarter, including 7 of 9 shots from the field and 2 of 3 at the foul line, kept the Rockets in the game. However, the Kings' strategic plays, such as Malik Monk's back-to-back 3-pointers and Precious Achiuwa's layup, ultimately secured their victory.
Looking ahead, the Rockets will face the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night, while the Kings will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, setting the stage for more exciting basketball action.
