Remembering Evelyn Barrett: A Life Well-Lived and a Legacy of Love (2026)

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of Evelyn Barrett’s (née Naughton) sudden yet peaceful passing on December 22nd, surrounded by the love of her family at University Hospital Galway. But here’s where it gets emotional—Evelyn’s departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew her, yet her legacy of kindness and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Coleman and Mary, her brother Michael, and her sister Mary. And this is the part most people miss—her life was a tapestry of love and connection, woven tightly with her devoted husband Bartley, their cherished children Bart, Jean, Deirdre, and Christopher, and their partners Shane Howley, Conor Killeen, Anne Campion, and Pauline McDonagh. Her adored grandchildren Abbie, Emily Jean, Seán, Matthew, Anna, Ian, and Emmett were the light of her life, and her sisters Bridge, Anne, and Nora, along with her brothers Padraic and Colm, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors, will all mourn her deeply.

Here’s a point to ponder—while death is inevitable, the impact of a life well-lived resonates far beyond its end. Evelyn’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and friends at St. Mary’s Nursing Home for their exceptional care and kindness over the past year, a testament to the compassion that can make even the hardest times bearable.

As we reflect on Evelyn’s gentle and kind soul, we’re reminded of the power of love and connection. Her funeral arrangements are as follows: on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, she will repose at Conneely’s Funeral Home, Flood Street (H91 A786), from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by removal to St. Augustine’s Church, Middle Street. On Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24th, 2025, a Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, with burial afterward in Forthill Cemetery.

Now, here’s a thought to spark discussion—how do we honor the memory of those we’ve lost? Is it through our actions, our words, or the way we carry their love forward? If you’d like to leave a message of sympathy for Evelyn’s family, please use the Online Book of Condolence below. The family sincerely thanks everyone for their kindness, sympathy, and support during this difficult time. May Evelyn’s gentle soul rest in eternal peace, and may her story inspire us to live with the same grace and compassion she embodied.
